How To Create and Join Google Spaces As A Page

Google just launched Google Spaces (Official Site) as a new social / messaging app. I am not sure what Google is trying to do to compete with Slack, Twitter or Facebook Group, but it is definitely confusing a lot of people like me, who is actively on Google+ Collection and Community.

Google has failed many times trying to compete with Facebook and Twitter as a social media power house, but it doesn't seem to work. Anyway, what is interesting about the spaces is that people will be invited to join conversations. This can be useful for a business to invite their customer to join semi-private conversation. As long as you have the invitation link, anyone can join the spaces.

The question is how can a business join and create a space?

Default Google Spaces Page

When you log into your Google Account, you have a way to add other Google account or business page like the following screenshot.
Choose Google account to join / create Space

From there, you can create a new spaces as a page.

The next question is how to join a space?

First of all, you need the invitation link to access the space. Copy and paste the invitation link to the browser address bar. It will take you to the space page. The link will look like this.

Google Spaces Invitation Link
As you can see, there is an invitation ID in the link:
https://spaces.google.com/space/[Space ID]?invite=[Invitation ID]

There are two way to join as as page.

  1. Simply choose the page account from the top right corner.
  2. Add your business page ID into the LINK, in case you have too many page that don't show up in the account list. The link will look like this.
https://spaces.google.com/b/[Page Google+ ID]/space/[Space ID]?invite=[Invitation ID]

Now you can join a space.

You may ask how to find your Business Google+ page ID? Simply login as your Google+ page and on the top right corner, click Settings. You can find the long number for your page ID.
